Q: Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?

A: I did it the old school way. I basically just browsed the book stores and by word of mouth. My mom and sister are also big readers so if one of us saw a great read we shared it with each other. We still do!

The place is Nantucket. I loved Nantucket Blue/Red by Leila Howland and any book by Elin Hilderbrand. They both write of the island with such passion and the descriptions are utterly breath taking. Summers there just seem so idyllic. The ideal place [it seems] to spend the summer.

Question of the Week: What are your non-book guilty pleasures? Like TV shows, food, websites, hobbies, etc.

My Guilty Pleasures:

I love Scandal and anything on Bravo TV. I also enjoy gossip rags magazines like the Star and US Weekly. As far as food I’m a sucker for sweets. I love cheesecake, mint chocolate chip ice cream and banana pudding.

Have you ever convinced someone to read a book, a series, or a whole genre? What book(s) and who was it? Did they like it?

I’ve convinced my mom to read YA! It started with The Hunger Games, then If I Stay which lead to Where She Went and The Fault in Our Stars. She loved them. I really want her to read Rainbow Rowell next. I love that she is opening up to other genres.

Tell us about one of your hobbies that is NOT reading.

MUSIC! Though I can’t play an instrument or sing a note I love it just as much. I love collecting vinyl lps. A few years ago I got a turntable for my birthday and ever since I’ve been getting records I LOVE. I’m huge fan of classic rock, 60’s and old school R&B music which is the perfect music to be heard on vinyl.

How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.

My habits have changed a lot in the last couple of years I’m proud to say. I use to only read just straight up fiction but now I’ve opened myself up to new genes and I’m glad I did, I’ve found some amazing reads in the process. I’ve got into some mystery/thriller and my biggest surprise is YA. It’s good to try new things you never know what kind of gem you will find.

If you could read a book for the “first time” again, which book would it be? Why?

This one was easy to decide. Eleanor & Park is just the best book when it comes to first love. I loved the characters and writing. I loved how Eleanor was a little sassy and how Park was the one who was more open in expressing his feelings. I just loved the chemistry between them and the wonderful story that made me fall in love with reading again.

Q: What do you do with your books after you are done reading them?

A: If I’m really attached to them and they are my favorites I keep them forever, if not I donate them. I just donated a huge box of over 40 books to the Salvation Army last Friday. It was a very hard thing for me to do since I LOVE my books but I knew they could bring some joy to a fellow reader out there. That made the pain a little more bearable to take.

Q: Book Vacay: Where is the best destination reading spot for you? (Where do you like to go to read other than your home.)

A: Well since I live in TX and it’s hotter than hell here this is a tough one. I’m not really an outdoorsy person but I do like to read outside if it’s not too hot. Nothing fancy I just sit on front steps and read.
