New Dark Cover, Same Dark Story: My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

NOW AVAILABLE IN PAPERBACK
MY LOVELY WIFE (Berkley Trade Paperback Reprint; March 3, 2020), Samantha Downing’s smash debut about a husband and wife duo who kill together, will be available in paperback on March 3rd. This delightfully twisted domestic-suspense thriller launched last year to the praise of readers across the country and established Downing as a writer to watch—and for very good reason.
After watching a documentary about a husband who forced his wife to help him kidnap a young woman and keep her captive for years, Downing had a terrifying but intriguing thought: Women never do this to other women… but what if they did?
Enter Millicent, a real estate agent living with her husband and two children in a gilded suburb of Central Florida. When Millicent and her husband commit their first murder, it’s accidental. But they are surprised to discover how the shared secret injects new life into their relationship. The second time a woman goes missing, it isn’t an accident. But even though they think they have this crime perfectly planned, it’s the deadly secrets they’re keeping from each other that may just be their undoing.
I'm honored to promote one of my favorite recent reads as it comes out in paperback. Here is my review of My Lovely WIfe if you haven't had the chance to read it please do! I know you will love it as much as I did.

Book Blitz: Where We Belong by Shann McPherson

Where We Belong by Shann McPherson
Published by: HQ Digital
Publication date: February 21, 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

An emotional, compelling page-turner from your next romance obsession, Shann McPherson, about the power of friendship and finding love where you least expect it.
When Alice ‘Murph’ Murphy’s beloved mother died, she promised to keep the family bakery in Graceville, Georgia afloat—even if it meant letting her high-school sweetheart, Nash Harris, go. For years, Murph has been biding her time, waiting for Nash to come back for her.
So when he strolls into Piece O’ Cake, Murph’s heart skips a beat—until he hands her an invitation to his wedding… There are painful secrets in both their pasts that only the two of them share, and Murph can’t bear the thought of Nash belonging to someone else.
There’s only one thing Murph can think of to do: fake a relationship with local bar owner and old friend Harley Shaw to remind Nash of what he’s losing, and win him back for good.
Nash is Murph’s best friend, a vivid reminder of her childhood and all the things she’s lost—but the more time Murph and Harley spend together, the more the lines between real and pretend begin to blur. Can Murph choose between the one who got away and the one who never left—and heal her aching heart?

EXCERPT
I push my glasses up my nose for the millionth time, and while holding my breath and with one eye narrowed, I wipe a tiny smudge of frosting from the silver turntable holding Mr. and Mrs. Robertson’s fiftieth wedding anniversary cake. It may have taken me two full days and most of last night, but I’ve finally finished. Exhaling the breath I’ve been holding for a beat too long, I take a step back to really appreciate my craftsmanship. Four layers of lemon and blueberry perfection, covered in a fluffy whipped buttercream frosting, decorated with beautiful red roses, delicate peonies, and a smattering of baby’s breath, all of which have been hand-piped by yours truly.
I place a hand on my hip, smiling proudly. “Alice Murphy, once again you’ve outdone yourself,” I whisper under my breath, mentally high-fiving myself.
The bell above the door to the shop jingles, pulling me from my musings, and I walk through from the kitchen to the front of the store, still smiling at the thought of my latest masterpiece.
“Welcome to Piece O’ Cake,” I sing in a cheerful customer service voice. “How can I help yo—” Stopping dead in my tracks, my eyes go wide as I gawp at the unexpected figure standing in the middle of the shop. He’s shadowed by the afternoon sun shining in through the windows, backlighting him to nothing more than a darkened silhouette, and I blink hard, unsure whether or not I’m imagining things. But then he speaks. And I would know that voice anywhere. This is definitely not my imagination playing tricks on me.
“Hey, Murph.” The shadow takes a step forward, coming in to the glow of the overhead lights, and I’m immediately enamored by that all too familiar grin.
“N-Nash?” I gasp.
His smile is bright and those eyes. I’d remember those eyes anywhere after spending such a big part of my life dreaming about them.
“Oh my God!” I scream, covering my mouth with trembling hands until I finally come to, ripping off my apron before practically throwing myself over the counter. Jumping up, I wrap my arms around his neck, and emotion gets the better of me as I stand there in the familiarity of his warm embrace with tears of happiness streaming down my cheeks.
He’s here.
The love of my life.
He’s home.

About Once In a Blue Moon

Florist Laney George has a successful business, amazing friends and big, big dreams––oh, and a broken heart. But she’s working through that last one. Then the man she hoped to never see again shows up––and Laney’s carefully ordered plans are experiencing technical difficulties. Celebrated Author Adam Fitzpatrick planned to be in St. Clair for no more than a day. Sign the books, and get out. Same story, different day. What he didn’t count on was Laney George, who happens to be the star of his somewhat fictional tale. She broke his heart years ago, and he’d gone a bit mad. Okay, maybe a lot mad––and he put everything in his book, never imagining it would be a world-wide best seller. Now that he’s seen her again, he wants answers. But it isn’t just her that draws him in. It’s the town, something is happening and for the first time in years…he can write again. If only he could convince the woman who hates him most to start a new chapter in their story.

Adam frowned as he studied the green wall in the airport restaurant. The strands of ivy had strange lines of yellow running through them, making them seem dead and lifeless. He reached out a hand and touched a leaf, then recoiled. Plastic. No wonder he didn’t like it. He pulled out some bills to pay for his coffee and got to his feet. A few weeks ago, he didn’t even know what a green wall was, yet now every time he saw one, all he could think of was Laney, her mouth pursed in concentration as she’d woven leaves and branches into the large metal frame. And she could use a chainsaw. So hot. He walked through the busy terminal to catch his flight. He’d ended up having to stay two nights in New York and spent most of the time wishing he was back in St. Clair. At least they’d raised double the money from last year’s event, and soon he’d be boarding his flight. Eight hours later, Adam pulled his rental car up to the Belles and climbed out. The St. Clair breeze was fresh and warm and loosened the knots in his shoulders. All he wanted to do was wrap himself around Laney, drinking in her warmth. He’d called her from the airport, but it had gone straight to her messages. He paused and frowned. They didn’t usually catch up until after six, but it had been two days. Besides, it must be six o’clock somewhere in the world. The closed sign hung on the door, but she’d given him a key last week. He climbed the stairs two at a time and reached the top as she walked past holding a tray of hot drinks. Her hair was pulled back off her face and hung over one shoulder, leaving her neck exposed. Heat seared through him, and he went to cross the threshold. Then she turned, and her entire body froze, knuckles turning white as she gripped the tray. Her mouth had taken on a horrified shape, as if he’d just walked across an entire garden bed of flowers. Adam stiffened in response. Not quite the homecoming he’d been expecting. “Where did you say the other jar of olives was?” a voice called out from somewhere in the apartment. Jessica? Oh, hell. His rising heat faded as Laney’s eyes locked with his, her gaze pleading. Begging him to stay hidden. “Don’t tell her. She’s already finished one jar today,” Brett’s voice chimed in from somewhere in the room. Laney’s hands shook as the color drained from her face, and Adam numbly took a step back down the stairs. Some of the tension in her jaw lessened, and she gave him a pained smile before hurrying into the other room, where her guests were obviously waiting. A dismissal. He rubbed his jaw as steel spikes jabbed at his gut. Had he been imagining that this thing they had was more than just a fling? Had he spent the last two days wanting to be with someone who didn’t want to be with him? A familiar wave of humiliation and anger swept through him. What I want doesn’t seem to matter. The sound of their laughing voices chased him as he stalked back to his own apartment. Nothing like a reality check to remind him that, despite how well everything seemed to be going, Simon was still there. I’m competing with a ghost. That was why she hadn’t told anyone about their previous relationship. Why she didn’t want anyone to know about this one. His legs twitched, and he considered going for a jog, but to do so he’d have to leave the apartment and risk bumping into Laney and her in-laws again. Risk seeing the horror in her eyes at almost having her secret exposed. Beer was the next best thing. He grabbed a can from the fridge.

“How did you know that I live up here?” I ask, feeling more and more like myself as time passes. He looks caught out for a second. “I stay late at the gym sometimes. If I see the light on in the kitchen, I keep an eye out to make sure you’re safe. I’ve seen you walk up here a few times.” An involuntary aww-like sound makes its way out of me. Heat rushes to my cheeks as my mouth moves itself into what has to be a dopey smile. “I watch you walk to work in the morning. Sometimes,” I catch myself, not wanting to sound like too much of a creep. “I keep an eye out to make sure you’re safe.” He takes a step closer and the brain fog from my near-death experience dissipates. A new one forms thanks to his close proximity, and when he grins at me it gets worse. I’m close enough to kiss him now. He might have noticed that too, because he plants his hands on either side of my thighs and leans in. I involuntarily lick my lips. Hunter watches that, then his gaze slides up to meet mine. “Are you stalking me?” I look down at my half-eaten cupcake and shrug. “Maybe a little. In the laziest way possible since it never requires me to leave this building.” “Seeing you standing in the window every morning is sometimes the best part of my day.” He’s a liar, but the lies feel good, so I’m content to let him keep telling them. His flattery turns me into a puddle, and I’m about to drip off this counter and onto the floor by his feet. “How come you never said anything?” “Because it’s cute. I like it.” Our lips are like magnets, inevitably attracted to each other. I move forward, I can’t help it. It’s science. Only it doesn’t quite work out the way I’d hoped, because instead of kissing me, Hunter sighs and moves back far enough that I’ll topple over if I follow. I knew it was too good to be true. “Sorry,” I say as I look down at the floor, because if I look him in the eyes I might die of embarrassment. “I shouldn’t have.” He surprises me by tenderly tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “You’re in shock, Lex. When I kiss you, I want to make sure it’s real, that it’s not the adrenaline or the fact that I just saved you with my…what did you call them?” “Bionic arms,” I repeat, kind of dazed. He smiles. “Yeah, that.” “You want to kiss me?” I ask, completely blowing past his cute little callback. “Constantly. I only recently became aware that you might feel the same way.”

Book Blitz: Feisty by Julia Kent

Feisty by Julia Kent
(Do-Over Series, #3)
Publication date: January 28, 2020
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance

I’m not too proud to admit that finding Mr. Right involves swiping right. Right? Welcome to dating in avocado toastland.
Here I am, on my first blind date, ever, courtesy of a smartphone app and my two annoying best friends.
So what is Chris “Fletch” Fletcher doing, walking across the room, looking at his phone like he’s pattern matching a picture to find a real person he’s never met before?
Oh.
Oh, no.
The guy I drop-kicked in seventh grade cannot be my blind date. The guy who earned me this infernal nickname.
That’s right.
Feisty.

More from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent as Fiona “Feisty” Gaskill gets her chance at love – drop-kick included.

EXCERPT
“Fletch?” I gasp as Perky smiles and walks away, abandoning me in my time of need.
“Hey, Fiona. What’re you doing here?” He looks down at my drink. “Nice penis.”
“Excuse me?”
He points to my chai latte. “Perky did a good job. I was in here last week and she made some beautiful flower patterns on my latte.” He frowns, then his eyebrows shoot up. “Hold on. Those weren’t flowers, were they?”
I laugh.
“Wow. And they seemed so… detailed. And gorgeous.”
My sides are splitting.
“Please… stop… flowers…” I gasp.
“That latte did give me a sudden desire to go to a Georgia O’Keeffe show, though.”
I rush to take a sip of my chai latte and make the penis go away. Fletch watches me, mouth spreading into a wider grin, his green eyes shining as he crosses his arms over his chest.
It’s only then that I realize he’s wearing real clothes. A crisp, light purple dress shirt, open at the neck, tucked into khahis. He has actual leather shoes – and not for weight lifting or cross-training – on his feet. His hair is styled but not sticky, and he has a close, clean shave.
His aftershave is divine.
“You’re not in workout gear. Or a paramedic’s uniform,” I say as I blot the foam on the tip of my nose, wondering if it’s ruined my makeup.
“And you look lovely tonight. A little overdressed for a Beanerino latte with Perky,” he says, waving to her from across the room as she swings a hand towel in the air like she’s a date-night air traffic controller.
“I have a date.”
“So do I.”
“You don’t have a man bun, do you?”
He looks down at his crotch. “Is that like camel toe for guys?”

Author Bio
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 4 New York Times bestsellers and more than 19 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French and German, with more titles releasing in 2020 and beyond.
From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire she met in a romantic comedy).
She lives in New England with her husband and three children where she is the only person in the household with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

February TBR

Review: Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald

Behind Every Lie by Christina McDonald
Published: February 4, 2020
Publisher: Gallery Books
Format: via NetGalley
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis
If you can’t remember it, how do you prove you didn’t do it?

Eva Hansen wakes in the hospital after being struck by lightning and discovers her mother, Kat, has been murdered. Eva was found unconscious down the street. She can’t remember what happened but the police are highly suspicious of her.

Determined to clear her name, Eva heads from Seattle to London—Kat’s former home—for answers. But as she unravels her mother’s carefully held secrets, Eva soon realizes that someone doesn’t want her to know the truth. And with violent memories beginning to emerge, Eva doesn’t know who to trust. Least of all herself.

My Thoughts
Eva wakes up after being struck by lightening not knowing anything but is told her mother is dead and she is the prime suspect. She can’t recall anything but knows she couldn’t have possibly killed her mother so she sets out to find out the truth since her life depends on it. Her search for the truth takes her from Seattle to London and in the process, she learns her life was a complete lie and this just makes matters worse. Not only does she have to defend herself she now has to find out who she is.

Behind Every Lie is another winner from Christina McDonald, she is quickly becoming my new go-to author. Her writing is amazing, she gives us characters and storylines that are complex but yet very human and relatable at the same time. She gives us twists and turns and her storytelling has depth and multilayers.

I could go on about this book but I wouldn’t dare spoil it for anyone who is thinking about picking it up, and if you aren't thinking about it you really should! If you love a great suspenseful novel I highly recommend this gem of a book.

Sawyer glanced at the store and back at Jamie. “Wait, you...you bought the bookstore?” “Yeah. Oh, yeah.” Had she not made that clear already? “I bought it a few years ago, just like I always said I would.” Did he not remember, or did he simply think that everyone moved away from their hometown and never looked back? “I had no idea,” he said, blinking rapidly before letting out a strangled-sounding laugh. “Well, how would you? You’ve been gone for fifteen years.” There. She’d said it. “Unless Rick tells you everything.” “Not that thing,” he said under his breath. She was a little stumped as to why he seemed so surprised. He’d just seen her on top of a ladder shelving new books. Did he really think she was still working part-time in the afternoons for Mr. Ogilvy? “Well, enough about me.” She pasted on a smile. “How are you? What are you doing back here?” She was dying to know. Rick hadn’t breathed a word about Sawyer coming back. And Sawyer’s crisp blue dress shirt and the messenger bag that was currently slung over his shoulder kind of made it seem like this was more than simply a vacation—not that it seemed likely he’d come to visit on a whim after all this time. “I...um...” His face went blank for a second, and then the chime of a cell phone had him reaching for his pocket. “Oh, excuse me. Hold on...” Jamie nodded, wondering who would be calling him. Then she wondered why she cared as two bothersome words echoed in her consciousness: romantic hiatus. Sawyer’s brow furrowed as he glanced at the screen of his ringing iPhone. “Oh. Um, sorry. I have to...” “Oh.” Jamie nodded again while Sawyer held the phone to his ear. She couldn’t seem to stop. “Hey, Dana. Can you hold on just a second?” Sawyer glanced up from his phone with an apologetic smile. “I have to take this.” Whoever Dana might be, she was clearly important to him. And that was perfectly fine. Jamie didn’t even know Sawyer anymore. Seeing him again had been nice, though. Not quite as agonizing as she’d originally feared. “Of course,” she said, shooing him off. “Yeah, go. It was great to see you again.” “Good to see you too. Bye.” He was already walking away, practically sprinting toward the courtyard exit. “Hey, Dana. Yeah...” He waved at her one last time before he disappeared. “Bye,” she said, and her heart gave a little squeeze. Then she took a deep inhale, squared her shoulders and marched back inside her book- store. This was nothing more than history repeating itself. Jamie had grown accustomed to saying goodbye to Sawyer O’Dell a long, long time ago.

Faced with a life or death decision while Jessie is already running for the hills, she turns to the one friend who has always been there for her, Sebastian.

The rift between Jessie and Vanessa puts Sebastian in the middle; a hard place to be when you're trying to balance on a thin line between a devastated brother and the girl you've always loved.

Will Jessie realize what he's giving up? Can Sebastian finally be the man Vanessa needs him to be? How will Vanessa choose and will it be the right choice?

Beloved
The Locke Brothers Book 3

For the Locke brothers loving the same woman has always been a challenge, but nothing compared to the challenge they're yet to face…

Finally able to pursue her happily ever after with Sebastian, Vanessa is overwhelmed and excited for the future. With Jessie's blessing, they move from dating to being engaged in a matter of weeks. She can't wait to spend the rest of her life with Sebastian and doesn't want to waste another second.

But something is lurking in the background, something neither the brothers nor Vanessa could see coming. Something more dangerous than love, more threatening than heartache. When the news strikes, the turbulent love triangle is shaken to the core.

Out of desperation to change her story, Vanessa, who was ready to say I do to one brother, ends up proposing to the other. The Locke brothers are at a crossroads. Faced with impossible decisions, heart-wrenching revelations and a love strong enough to tear them all apart. They both know that in the end, they'll do anything to please the woman they love.

Love, heartache, regret, and passion all converge in this final novel of the Locke Brothers Series. Twi J. Bryant turns this love triangle on its head but in the end only one thing matters; their memories of her.

This is actually two authors writing together!

J. Bryant lives in a zoo. Not really, but come over at dinner time and you'll think you've stepped right into one between the teenagers and twins. She started writing as a creative way of getting her frustrations out and never expected anyone to read the madness that she jotted down. Then she partnered with Twi, who encouraged her to start a tumblr account and post the stories she'd written. HUGE MISTAKE! Now, we're sitting by the phone waiting on Ellen's call to invite us on her show. In the meantime she'll be cheering on her beloved Saints (ehhhm. Ellen, we're practically family) football team from where she resides in Louisiana!

Twi is a devoted mother and wife who wasn't that good at cooking to begin with so she doesn't feel guilty when she orders dinner in so she has time to write. Her love of sticky notes and all office supplies keeps her organized while her house slowly dissolves into madness during writing jags with her lobster, J. Bryant. (It's a Friends reference. Look it up.) She lives in Phoenix, AZ, where it is too hot to do anything outside, so she spends most of her free time on her computer or playing Destiny 2 with friends. Writing is her favorite creative outlet.
