About The Start of Someday

ABBY FULLER wants to have a little fun. Sure, she wants a relationship… someday. But for now, a little heat is exactly what the cold weather calls for. Breaking her own rules, she tumbles into bed with a handsome tourist passing through town…only to find him standing in her living room the following day. JACKSON PAGE is only in town for business. He isn’t expecting a sexy little something with the woman who hits on him at the bar, and he definitely isn’t expecting her to be the younger sister of the friend he’s visiting. Clearly, nothing more can happen between them…no matter how good they are together. But stolen moments and the magic of the holidays make it seemingly impossible for Abby and Jackson to ignore one very real truth: maybe their one night together could be the start of something more. A steamy holiday novella set in the Cedar Point series.

EXCERPT

I bet you could bounce a quarter off that ass.”

A snort from my left has me turning to look at my best friend, and I can’t help but grin at the look of complete exasperation on her face.

“What?” I ask, trying to appear as innocent as possible. “It’s true. You know it is.” Then I return my gaze to the absolutely fantabulous buns that caught my eye in the first place. “I mean…just look at it.”

“Thanks, but I’ll pass.”

Rolling my eyes at Briar’s inability to play with me about this, I continue my attempts at persuasion. “Oh, come on. Having your own boyfriend doesn’t mean you can’t objectively objectify someone else. You’re dating, not blind,” I say, nudging her obnoxiously with my elbow.

Briar narrows her eyes and lets out a long sigh, then finally shoots a quick glance in the direction I’ve been blatantly staring at for the past minute or two.

“I’d give it a solid six out of ten,” she finally says.

My eyes widen, and I seriously begin to wonder if we should just end our friendship right now because…what?

“What?” I say, and not quietly. “That is just…completely false. His ass is at least a nine, easy.”

Briar scrunches her nose and gives her head a little shake. “Mmmmm, those buns aren’t for me.”

I look back at the man in question, trying to understand how in the hell we can have such differing opinions.

This guy is built like a linebacker. Tall and muscular and broad in a way that says he can pick a girl up and toss her over his shoulder. I’ve always wondered what something like that would be like, and I bite my lip, enjoying the way he shifts to dig his wallet out of his back pocket.

“You could not be more wrong,” is all I say, finally refocusing all my attention on her. “But I can manage to forgive you, just this once.”

Briar snorts again and takes another sip of her wine.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that her eyes can no longer acknowledge other sexy men considering the fact that she’s finally ditched the old asshat and found the man of her dreams. Now that she’s all swoony in love, even managing to get her to take a look at Sexy Buns Guy should be considered a success in and of itself. Now, she only has eyes for one man.

Review: Requited by Melody Grace

Unrequited by Melody Grace
Published: May 21, 2014
Format: Kindle read
Rating: 3/5

Sypnosis
You can be anyone for a night...

Alicia isn't the kind of girl to kiss a total stranger up against the wall—no matter how devastatingly sexy he is. But reeling from a broken heart, she runs straight into the arms of Dex Callahan: rock star, bad boy, and the most seductive man she's ever known.

Dex is looking for distraction, at any price. The innocent redhead is just what he needs to keep his demons at bay—but one taste of her sweetness isn't enough. He needs to possess her, body and soul. Two searching hearts. One night to discover the passion of a lifetime. Dex is determined to show Alicia the pleasure she's been denied, but can she let go of her heartache and take a risk on the unknown?

My Thoughts
I love a Melody Grace novel, it’s the perfect thing when I want a break from reading fiction and thrillers. In Unrequited Alicia isn't the type of girl who has flings but tonight she is heartbroken and all she wants is to be wanted. Dex is the quintessential bad boy rocker and he isn't the one for relationships but when he meets Alicia will all that change?

These two are opposites but like they say opposites attract. Alicia after making out with Dex admits that this isn't who she is, but there is something about Dex that makes her feel things she never has. While Dex has demons he has to work out, he can't deny how Alicia makes him feel and all he wants is to show her exactly that.

I love Melody Grace’s novels because they give you a great story, awesome characters and the romance has just the right amount of steamy in them. So if you want something fun and flirty this one might be the one for you.

Book Blitz: Kasey by Jennifer Hanks

Kasey by Jennifer Hanks
(The Dimarco Series Novella)
Publication date: February 27, 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Introducing an exciting new series filled with suspense, sacrifice, family, and most of all, the healing power of love. Welcome to the Family…
One. Defining. Moment.
Kasey Moore is happy to be home. Moving to New Hope as a teenager hadn’t been easy, but once she settled in, she couldn’t imagine herself living anywhere else. After four years in College, she’s finally back to living in the town she loves and working her dream job as a teacher at the Elementary School.
For Kasey, her life couldn’t be more perfect.
Until a school assembly, an arrogant man, and a hot encounter in a closet shakes up everything Kasey thinks she wants.
Ten years as a Navy SEAL and Jackson Dimarco is coming home.
Ten years of rigid schedules, almost unreachable expectations, and being a part of something bigger than himself has changed him. Coming home, trying to find himself, the last thing Jax wants to do is talk to an auditorium full of school kids about his time in the military, but when his brother signs him up that’s exactly what he ends up doing.
And he meets someone who challenges him in a way nobody has in a very long time. He meets someone who inspires him to become more than who he’s settled for. He meets someone who makes him feel alive again.
It’s just a shame she doesn’t feel the same way.
But Jackson Dimarco has always loved a challenge and Kasey Moore is the biggest incentive he’s ever had to win.
This is a novella in The Dimarco Series. Can be read as a standalone and at any point in the series. However, if new to the series, I’d recommend reading this novella before the first book in the series, Lucy.

Book Blitz: Remaking Christmas by Derra Snow

Remaking Christmas by Derra Snow
Publication date: June 11, 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Ada’s love life is a wreck. She knows true love and happily-ever-afters only exist in the books she reads.
It’s Christmas again. For the first time, she’s going to Green Mountain Inn to get away from her woes. But there’s not the only reason. It’s her favorite romance author Patricia Millett’s rumored hangout spot.
There, Ada runs into Warren, a charming guy, who’s also has his share of woes. But there’s more to Warren than just his good looks, something Ada could never imagine. And Ada soon finds herself lured by the hope of romance that has failed her terribly before. Will Warren restore trust her trust in love or become yet another mistake?

EXCERPT
Turning, Ada saw the last person she expected to.
“It’s you,” she said.
“It’s you,” he said.
Still, Ada didn’t know what to say. Last time, he’d basically run away from her like she had a catching case of pneumonia, and now he was genuinely happy to see her?
Was this guy bipolar something? Either that or suffering from some dark secret.
Well, Ada reflected a bit sadly, we all have our secrets.
“Sorry about before,” he said now. “This place has a lot of memories for me. Good and bad. I’m still trying to get over the bad.”
“It’s okay,” Ada admitted. “I came here to get over some things, too.”
He nodded, not prying more. That worked for Ada just fine. She wouldn’t ask him to show her his if he didn’t ask her to show him hers.
Warren’s gaze had moved to the cookies in her hand. “Good choice.”
Ada’s brow rose – really?
Warren gave an adorable, crooked smile that Ada was starting to realize was his signature. “Ok, got me. Main thing is, are you a cookie and book type of person or not?”
“Definitely,” Ada said. “Although we probably don’t like the same type of books.”
” Try me.”
“Okay.” Ada could feel her cheeks heating up already. Harlequins were her guilty pleasure, emphasis on the guilty. She never had any problem confiding in other women of her little hobby, but for some reason, maybe because of Robbie’s outright mockery of them, she always had trouble telling men. “Okay. I read romances.”
Warren’s face, sometimes such an open book, was hard to read.
“There,” Ada said. “Laugh if you want. But I even came here because I heard one of my favorite romance novelists Patricia Millett does.”
“I’m not going to laugh,” he said simply.
“But you think it’s stupid,” Ada persisted.
“No,” he said. “Not at all. There’s something about romances that other books don’t have. Maybe it’s the happy endings or the belief of the best in human relationships, I don’t know. But whatever it is, it’s nothing worth taking lightly or laughing about.”
Ada’s jaw dropped. “What are you, some kind of literature prof?”
“Something like that, yeah.”
“Aren’t you going to ask what my job is?” she teased.
“Only if you want me to.”
“No,” she decided. Her office job bored her to tears. “Ask me about my cat.”
“All right. Tell me about your cat.”
Ada was about to say, I could do you one better and have you meet him, but she clamped her lips shut. What was going on with her?
Being around Warren like this made her forget herself. She felt so open and free like she could say anything, and he would still smile at her with those kind eyes. She felt like she’d lost ten years in ten minutes.
Ada bit her lip. She had to be careful. Despite how she left, she hardly knew Warren, and hardly even knew what he did for a living. Literature professor? Was he serious?

Holiday Reviews: One Snowy Night & Holiday Wishes by Jill Shalvis

One Snowy Night and Holiday Wishes by Jill Shalvis
Published: November 8, 2016 / November 7, 2017
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Format: audiobook via Overdrive
Ratings: 3.5/5 & 3/5

My Thoughts
One Snowy Night is a cute and cozy read about Rory who is stuck and has to go home for Christmas and her only way to get there is by Max. Max is her old high school crush and let's just say that time has been very good to him. Rory has to get home in time to deliver her mom’s present but a snowstorm has other plans and soon she and Max become close. I loved how finally Rory just lets go and enjoys herself, she really just enjoyed the moment and it was perfect. This was a very cute read one that will definitely have you rooting for Max and Rory.

Holiday Wishes is about Lottie who owns an inn and Sean who comes to celebrate his brother’s upcoming wedding. Soon a snowstorm has everyone stranded there and then Sean recognizes Lottie as someone from his past but when he talks to her she seems to not know who he is. Lottie definitely knows who Sean is but seeing how he took her virginity then never called her after she doesn’t want anything to ever do with him ever again. Since they are trapped in together they soon talk and get to know each other again and the truth comes out about that night from years ago. The chemistry they have is undeniable and soon sparks fly and there is no doubt they are want to see where this can go. This is definitely a more steamy read but nevertheless, it is a good one, if you want something fun and sexy this is the one for you.

Review: When I Dream of You by Rosa Sophia

When I Dream of You by Rosa Sophia
Published: September 17, 2014
Format: via Xpresso Blog Tours
Rating: 3/5

Synopsis
Nina Archer battles memories of a trauma that occurred twelve years ago... With plans to move to North Carolina, she hopes to separate herself from her mother, whose excessive drinking is becoming unbearable. Then suddenly, fate steps in to help her heal in a way she would never think possible. While running a race in Juno Beach, Nina finds herself next to a man whom she's immediately attracted to. Wes Ladner, the same man she dreamt about one year ago...

Wes is focused on his writing, and has no time for a woman. But the night before they met, he dreamt of Nina. Although they come from two very different worlds neither of them can deny the sparks that fly between them. As her time runs out to make a decision, Nina wonders if she's been given the chance to come to terms with her past, and accept a gift that some never receive - true love.

My Thoughts
I was bit a torn by this read. I liked the premise of the book, a girl named Nina who is trying to start a new life away from her alcoholic mother. She keeps having these dreams of being assaulted and yelling for her mother for help yet she doesn’t come to help. We find out she was raped but she hasn’t really dealt with that in her life. She hasn’t really had much interaction with guys since then until she meets a new mystery guys who wants her for her and is willing to really be there for. While the book isn’t bad it just wasn’t what I thought it would be. I must admit I judged a book by its cover big time on this one. I thought I was going to get a fun beachy read but I got a novella focusing in some heavy subjects.

Review: Sweet Memories by Steena Holmes

Sweet Memories [Decadent Events #1] by Steena Holmes
Published: August 20, 2013
Format: free Kindle read
Challenges: 2015 TBR Pile
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis
Happily-ever-after only happens once in a lifetime, right? But what if Prince Charming runs for the hills at the first sign of trouble and leaves you to pick up the pieces? Thinking her marriage was over, Tessa was more than a little shocked to fall into the arms of her husband (literally) at a party she’d planned through her new company, Decadent Events. When he asks her out for coffee, she assumes it’s to sign the divorce papers he’d seen. What’s a girl to do when her heart still goes pitter-patter for a man who ran out on her six months after they made their forever vows but comes back asking for another chance?

My Thoughts
Steena Homes has done it again! I’m a huge fan of her novels and this one is no expectation. In this novella she gives us the story of Tessa who after her husband takes off with no explanation is left to put the pieces of her life back together. She pushes the sadness aside and builds a company which she puts all her focus and energy into then sudden after a year her husband comes back. What is she to do? She still loves him of course but he left with no word and broke her heart. She was finally dealing with the fact that he wasn’t coming back when he came back, however she wants answers. Why did he leave and why didn’t he explain why after the fact. Not everything is black or white and sometimes things can be taken wrong and sometimes we do learn from our mistakes. And yes sometimes love can conquer all but it takes time and real work, sometimes if we are lucky we get that second chance.
I love how Steena Holmes always gives us these complex characters that have such depth yet are so relatable. I love how although this is a novella it reads like a full-fledged read, with rich characters and a storyline that any of us could possibly relate to. This is the first of two books and I for one can’t wait to read the next in the series. I encourage you to read any of her novels and I promise you are bound to find one that will touch your soul, folks they are THAT good!

Mini Review: Making Waves by Ophelia London

Making Waves: A Perfect Kisses Novella by Ophelia London
Published: June 16, 2014
Publisher: Entangled Bliss
Format: via NetGalley
Challenges: NetGalley/Edelweiss
Rating 3.5/5

Synopsis
She’s in over her head and he’s in hot water…

Visiting her friends Ellie and Charlie in Hawaii was supposed to be a much-needed vacation for journalist Justine Simms. But when she learns the notoriously reclusive pro-surfer Chase Ryder is coming out of retirement for a competition, she knows she’s found the perfect exclusive to save her career. Of course, then she learns he’s the gorgeous, secretly nerdy guy who broke her heart a year ago.

Will Davenport—aka Chase Ryder—doesn't do interviews. He keeps his real name out of the papers and doesn’t mix his public life with his private. That is, until the still-heartbroken Justine blackmails him into giving her an exclusive. Seeing Justine, stunningly beautiful as ever, brings back all the feelings he had before. But despite their smoldering attraction, nothing has changed since he had to leave her the first time.

My Thoughts
When I started this I wasn’t aware that this was a part of a series, but believe me although this is a novella it totally reads fine as a standalone. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything by not reading the other books but it does make me curious to some of the backstory.

Justine escapes to Hawaii to get away from everything and especially Will. It’s been awhile since they have talked, she thought there was something there but after not hearing from him she thinks maybe it was all one sided. While there she tries to get a scoop for her paper about a local surfer Chase. Well little does she know Will is Chase, and now this story has a more personal connection than she ever predicated. Not only does she want to know what’s with the dual personas she also wants to know why he left her. Was the connection real or just her imagination?

This is a quick cute and ideal beach read. It has just enough romance and the chemistry between the characters is so real you can’t help but root for them. This is definitely the read for an afternoon at the beach or by the pool.

Mini Review: The Glass Case by Kristin Hannah

The Glass Case by Kristin Hannah
Expected Publication: November 11, 2011
Format: via kindle free read
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis
April Bannerman is a young mother of three, married to her high school sweetheart, living in the same small town in which she grew up. Although she loves her children and husband, April is plagued by the growing doubt that she has not lived up to her mother's expectations for her--until one day when something terrible and unexpected happens, and April must face the truth about her own life and discover what really matter.

My Thoughts
I will admit I might be biased since I am a huge fan of Kristin Hannah’s writing. I think she writes such amazing heartfelt stories about friends, family and love. Although The Glass Case is a short novella this read is no different.

It focuses on April as she faces how her life has turned out and reminiscing about her past. She had her children young and is worrying if her life is at all what she thought it would be. She does not regret her children but she knows her mother wanted more for her, and now that she has passed she wonders if her mother would be upset with the choices she made. One day one of her children goes missing and during that time the tragedy makes thing come into focus. She realizes that regardless of what happens you will always love your kids, that the fights and misunderstandings don’t mean a thing while it all comes down to it. Something magical happens or some might say they saw it coming but everything turns out okay. This novella while short packs as much emotions and love as any of Kristin Hannah’s full blow books.

Holiday Reads: Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas by Sugar Jamison

Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas [Holiday Novella] by Sugar Jamison
Published: October 1, 2013
Format: via NetGalley
Rating: 3/5

Synopsis
On the first day of Christmas, Dina Gregory, former wild child and prodigal daughter returns home to New York on a mission. Finding her young son’s father and making him take responsibility for the child he created is the only thing on her wish list. But instead of finding the man she was looking for she runs into his stuffy older brother Ben. Ben has never liked Dina, but being trapped together on the holidays allows him to see a different side of her. She brings back his Christmas spirit and in the process reminds him what it feels like to love. Dina’s past makes her wary of falling in love, but Ben is determined to make her stay as his permanent Christmas gift.

My Thoughts
I’m a huge sucker for anything Christmas, I love the whole magical and sappiness of the season but this novella really tested my theory. This short story was just a tad too unbelievable even for me. Dina goes out looking for her baby’s father she finds his brother instead. Of course he is a hard nose stick in the mud but somehow in literally a matter of minutes he falls in love with Dina, he’s dead brothers ex. Wow! Plus suddenly he wants to marry her and refers to his nephew as his “son.” Weird! I mean I get the whole wanting to help out and talking care of his family but I felt it was way too rush, granted I know it’s a short story but still.

Though I felt for Ben he lost his wife and never wanted to love again, I wonder if he loved Dina or was it just the fact that she was attractive and there. I just couldn’t buy into this “instant” love story. I did love the Christmas background and the story had promise. I honest wished this was a full size read, if longer this was something I could’ve love. For that reason I give it a three for the pure potential.

Review: Style Me Sexy[Short Novella] by Tara Chevrestt

Style Me Sexy [Short Novella] by Tara Chevrestt
Published: October 2013
Format: NetGalley
Publisher: Escape Publishing
Rating 2/5

Synopsis
A charming short story about beauty, the beholder, and believing in yourself.

Bridget knows she isn’t beautiful; her ex made that point abundantly clear. So when her online-only romance suddenly leads to a real-life blind date, she beelines to the salon for a makeover. She’s dismayed and embarrassed when her usual stylist isn’t available and the sexy Javier steps in.

Javier has long been aware of the timid but kind woman, and vows to take this opportunity to make her see that she's beautiful on the outside, as well as in. Will he succeed in keeping his own feelings at bay and style her sexy?

My Thoughts
I normally don’t like novellas but since I have so many on my Kindle I figured this past weekend I would finally just read a bunch of them. I really wanted to like this but I just couldn’t, I just couldn’t believe the connection between the two characters.  I liked the whole idea of the online romance meeting thing, but I just felt they were making Bridget into this ugly duckling person which I didn’t buy into. Without giving it away I just felt this novella was quite predictable, no real surprises. It had the making of something great; but just fell kind of flat in my eyes.
