Synopsis:
Charlotte
O’Dell knows this summer is going to suck. Her beloved mother just died, her
sister hates her, and her dad has completely checked out. Fulfilling her
mother’s final wish, the family heads to Angel Island for the summer to stay in
a beach house her mother once loved.
After a year
of being shut away taking care of her mother, Charlotte is numb and practically
afraid of her own shadow; she hopes going to the island will give her the time
and space she needs to begin healing, and an opportunity to bring her family
back together. When she meets her mysterious neighbor, Ezra, it doesn’t take
long for Charlotte to confess the issues she’s developed. Ezra begins giving
Charlotte assignments to get over her fears, and although she accepts his

to forget the hollow ache in her heart and the fact that her family is falling
apart. But Ezra has secrets…

My Thoughts:
I truly connected with this on a personal level. I’m very much like Charlotte. I’ve always been very guarded and have built walls in order for me to never get hurt. It took me a long time to realize that not everyone is out to hurt you and that love is a two way street. You can’t give love if you’re not able to receive it. Love is one of the greatest gifts you can give someone. It’s one of the purest things in life and anyone deserves to experience that at least once in life.

I was pleasantly surprised by this wonderful read. This is a story of a family trying to mend after the recent death of their beloved mother and how they must now try and figure out how to deal with this and repair what’s left of them. By fulfilling their mother’s last wish to return to the summer place where she grew up, they all somehow, slowly but surely heal and try to become a family again.
The main character Charlotte is my favorite. She’s the one who has taken the brunt of everything that’s happened. She was the one who cared for her mom and has tried to keep her family afloat. She’s trying to keep her dad from falling into depression and her younger sister from going down the wrong path. During all this she has been taking care of everyone and everything else around her; she has failed to take care of herself. In the process she has closed herself off to everyone around her emotionally, building up walls so that she will experience hurt like that again.

Then enters Ezra, who is the perfect guy next door, but has his own issues and secrets that are far from perfect. Can Charlotte finally allow herself happiness after so much pain? Or will her emotional walls force the one person who has cared enough to take the time and see through it all? Little does she know that by simply opening up her heart not only will she start to heal herself, but she will also maybe help Ezra in the process.

Life and love is like Waiting for the Storm it can be rough and bumpy but you have to have the ugly in order to truly appreciate the rainbow at the end.
