Mini Review: One Week 'Til Christmas by Belinda Missen

One Week Til Christmas by Belinda Missen
Published: November 1, 2019
Publisher: HQ Digital
Format: via NetGalley
Rating: 3/5

Synopsis
Two people. One chance meeting. Seven days to Christmas.
Isobel Bennett is waiting for the number 11 bus when a man quite literally falls into her lap. Snow is falling, Christmas lights are twinkling, and a gorgeous man with dark brown hair has just slipped on ice and is now pressed against Isobel. Isobel knows she’s not imagining the chemistry between them. But then his ride arrives and, embarrassed, he beats a hasty retreat, murmuring apologies – and Isobel realizes only too late that she didn’t manage to catch his name…
When she runs into him again the next morning, she decides it’s fate. It’s a second chance for Isobel and Tom – but there’s only one week until she’s leaving London for good. Seven days of enjoying all the festive delights the city has to offer: ice-skating at Somerset House, mulled wine on the Southbank, Christmas shopping at Liberty. There’s magic in the air and mistletoe in the trees – but what will happen when the week is over?
My Thoughts
Isobel and Tom have their met cute when they bump into each other not once but twice and what happens after that leads to a week of fun and romance but what happens after their whirled wind week? Will these two realize that there is more to this than just a fling or will they just chalk all this up to just fun?

I liked this novel it was a quick read filled with fun and romance and two characters that were meant to be. When they meet it was supposed to be just a fling but they soon discovered how much they had in common and how much they filled what was missing in their lives. This is a read for anyone who loves a good romance sprinkled with the magic that is Christmas.

Mini Review: Christmas in Winter Hill by Melody Carlson

Christmas at Winter Hill by Melody Carlson
Published: September 3, 2019
Publisher: Revell
Format: via audiobook
Rating: 3/5

Synopsis
Krista Galloway is not a fan of Christmas. After her rough childhood in multiple foster homes, the holiday season just brings too many bad memories to the surface. But when she accepts a job as a city manager in the mountain town of Winter Hill, Washington, Christmas is part of the deal. The small town is famous for its Christmasville celebration, something that the city manager . . . well, manages.

As she tries to make her tiny new apartment feel like home for her and her eight-year-old daughter, Emily, Krista begins to wonder if this move was a mistake. She doesn't always feel welcomed in the close-knit town, and Emily continually wonders, "Where's the snow?" Can a friendly stranger and his family help restore Krista's Christmas spirit before the big day?

My Thoughts
Krista and her daughter recently moved to Winter Hill in hopes of a better future. It’s Christmas time and no one loves it more than Krista’s daughter but Krista isn't one for it since she grew up in the foster care system and the holidays bring no cheer at all. So when she moves to a town that loves the holidays Krista is a little put-off, to say the least, but her daughter and the town hope to change her mind.

So will this town change her mind about Christmas and make her see there is some good in this world? Not to mention maybe even a new romance is her future. I really enjoyed this book it was cute and a quick read but one with lots of cheer and holiday magic. I like a good read that shows us that hope is a possibility and shows us that the good still has good people in it. This is one read that will bring you some great holiday feels.

Mini Review: 25 Days Til Christmas by Poppy Alexander

25 Days Til Christmas by Poppy Alexander

Synopsis
Kate Potter used to love Christmas. A few years ago, she would have been wrapping her presents in September and baking mince pies on Halloween, counting down the days and hours to Christmas. But that was before Kate’s husband left for the army and never came home. Now she can hardly stand December at all.

Kate can’t deny she’s lonely, yet she doesn’t think she’s ready for romance. She knows that her son, Jack, needs a Christmas to remember—just like Kate needs a miracle to help her finally move forward with her life. So she’s decided if there isn’t a miracle on its way, she’ll just have to make her own.

As Kate’s advent countdown to the best Christmas ever begins, she soon realizes that even with the best-laid plans, you can’t plan for the unexpected. For when the path of the loneliest woman in town crosses with that of the loneliest man, these two destined hearts might find a way to save the holiday for both of them.

My Thoughts
When I think of Christmas I think of it as magical, inspiring and the season when all things are possible. In 25 Days Til Christmas, Kate is a single mother who just wants her child to have a great holiday season, but she knows that it will be tough seeing how she is just trying to deal and make ends meet after the death of her husband. So she is just trying to make it the best Christmas for her son while both of them miss her husband so much.

Daniel is a lonely man who has recently lost his only family, his sister she was his everything and now he is in this world alone simply going through the motions. While he and Kate haven’t actually met they have seen each other in passing but one faithful day they actually met and soon they become friends and if fate has its way maybe something even more.

I loved this story of two souls who you know need each other. They both have been through tragedies recently and both need someone who knows what they experiencing and together I feel like they can help heal each other. This story is so pure and you can’t help falling in love with these characters and rooting for them to come together and be that spark of happiness they both need in their lives. This is one magical read that will have you believing in the magic that is the holiday season.

About Christmas In Evergreen: Letters to Santa

Return to Evergreen, the town where Christmas wishes come true… But only if you know what your heart really wants.   When Lisa takes a last-minute Christmas trip to her hometown of Evergreen, she finds that the historic general store has closed. The place was a beloved local tradition, and she decides to use her skills as a professional retail designer to bring it back to its former glory. She charms a local contractor, Kevin, into working with her, and the pair find themselves facing one surprise after another.   One of the biggest surprises of all is finding the mysterious 25-year-old letter to Santa that never made it to the North Pole. Who really wrote it, and will its request come true at last? And will Lisa and Kevin figure out what they’re truly wishing for?   This sweet small-town romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe for Incredible Apple Dumplings.

Excerpt
The closer she got to Evergreen, the heavier the snow. That added to Lisa’s happiness. Maybe there would be a snow angel in her future. She hadn’t made one since... It had definitely been way too long.

She took the Evergreen exit from the highway, reducing her speed on the quaint country road while still belting out fa-la-la-la-las. Up ahead, a red truck with pine trees in the back stood at the stop sign. She pulled up behind it. After a moment, when the truck hadn’t budged, she rolled her window down and peered around it. That’s when she realized the hood of the truck was up.

Aw, man. She leaned her head out the window. “Are you having trouble with your truck?” “It’s not my truck,” a man’s voice said. What kind of answer was that? “Is it stolen?” A dark-haired man with what looked like a day’s worth of beard poked his head around the truck. “No. It’s on loan from a friend,” he said with a smile. A very attractive smile, Lisa couldn’t help but notice.

The truck had to be an early ’50s model. Nice. She could’ve done without the gaudy wreath on

the back, but it was a sweet ride. Who loaned that kind of vehicle to someone? They must’ve been a pretty good friend.

She didn’t know why she had the urge to tease him, but she gave in to it. “Ohhh,” she said with an exaggerated moan. “You broke your friend’s truck?”

That got a reaction out of the guy. He stepped out from the front of the truck, looking on the defensive. “I didn’t break it, it was already...”

Lisa almost grinned, nearly breaking the ruse, then frowned in an attempt to look serious. “Hey, it looks to me like it—”

He shook his wrench in her direction. “You’re just messing with me.” His smile registered in his eyes as he laughed.

Busted. “I am. I am.” She flung open her door and got out. “No. Seriously. Can I do something to help?” He eyed her cautiously as he wiped his hands on a red shop rag. He was wearing a green down jacket, and he didn’t seem the least bit worried about dirtying the off-white sweater beneath it. “How are you with old engines?”

“Astonishingly good,” she admitted. Years of hanging out with her grandfather every summer in his garage while he worked on his old cars had paid off.

The old truck looked to be in great shape. It had either been kept in a garage and treated with white gloves, or there’d been one heck of a restoration on it. The flame-red paint job was so perfect it looked like it had just come off the line.

He looked unsure whether to believe her. “Really?” “Yeah. May I?” She took the wrench from his hand, noticing that his shiny red toolbox was from about the same era as the truck. Nice. “Thank you.” She leaned in to look under the hood. “All right. What have we got here?” She reached in and gave something a tap. “Have you tried this?”

“Yep.” The motor was clean. Someone took superb care of this ride. The spark plugs didn’t appear corroded or oily, but she tapped on the spark plug wire just the same. “How about this?” “Twice,” he said. “Hmm. I bet you haven’t tried this.” But before she could give the battery cable a good jiggle he said, “Yes. I tried that too.”

“Ah, but...” Lisa reached in to the engine and cranked the wrench against something that seemed a little stuck. “Let me just...” She got it to budge, then stood back. Handing the wrench to him, she asked, “Do you mind if I try to start it?”

“No, go for it.” “This is a beautiful old truck.” She crossed in front of him, opened the driver’s door and climbed in.

“Yeah, isn’t it?”

She closed the door. On the seat of the truck was a clipboard with an employment application for Banford Logging, Inc., already filled out. The guy’s name was Kevin Miller. He looks like a Kevin. In the passenger’s seat, a wooden crate overflowed with fresh vegetables: collards, sweet potatoes, eggplant, carrots, zucchini and peppers. They made her a little hungry for a good stir-fry. “All right.” She leaned forward and twisted the key. The engine struggled.

“Hold on a second,” he said. “Yep.” She took her hand from the key and put both of her hands in the air.

He did something under the hood, then stepped out where she could see him. “Okay. Try it again.”

She turned the key and the truck started right up. “Hey! Look at that!” She rested her elbow out the window. “Teamwork.”

“Yeah.” He walked over to the driver’s side of the truck. “Although I contend that I did most of the work, and most of that before you got here.” He leaned against the front fender, just behind the cute little round side mirror.

“That is fair. However.” She raised a finger toward him. “Had I not come along, you’d still be standing here with your little feet in the snow.”

“Also fair.” His friendly smile sent a zing right through her that could’ve melted that snow.

Holiday Review: The Christmas Note by Donna VanLiere

The Christmas Note by Donna VanLiere

Synopsis
Gretchen Daniels has recently moved into a condo with her two children to be closer to her mother, Miriam. As they build a life together in their new community, they notice a mysterious young woman, Melissa McCreary, who lives next door. She has few possessions, little personality, and keeps to herself. One day a local landlord who is looking for Melissa knocks on Gretchen's door for assistance. Melissa's mother has died and in the coming weeks the landlord needs Melissa to empty her mother's apartment. Gretchen reaches out and offers to help Melissa, but the apartment is a gut-wrenching shamble of a home. There is little worth saving except for a few photos and a note that is discovered on the crate beside the bed. It is unfinished, but in the two scribbled lines, Melissa discovers secrets about her family that she never could have imagined. Can two very different women embark on a journey that explores a long-buried need for forgiveness, hope, and redemption?

My Thoughts
The Christmas Note is the tale of Gretchen who has moved to be closer to her mom and whose husband is in the military. She has a neighbor Melissa who is not neighborly, to say the least. While Gretchen and her kids try to be nice and friendly Melissa is used to keeping to herself and she wants to keep it that way. One day when Melissa is gone someone shows up and tells Gretchen that Melissa’s mom has passed away and that she needs to tell her. While Gretchen doesn’t know how to tell her this news once she does she tries to befriend Melissa to help her through this hard time, but what Gretchen doesn’t know is that Melissa and her mom weren’t close at all. Melissa soon discovers that her mom kept a huge secret from her and now she’s on a mission to find out what her mom hid all these years. This secret it turns out is much closer than she ever realized and not only that but she finds out her mother isn’t who she thought she was, she learns she had hardships in life. Though all this Melissa and Gretchen become friends soon they will discover that life has other plans for them. This was a feel-good read that shows us that fate does exist. People are bought into our lives for a reason and Melissa and Gretchen will discover that. Nothing screams Christmas than a miracle and these two will definitely find theirs during the holidays.

Holiday Review: Dear Santa by Nancy Naigle

Dear Santa by Nancy Naigle

Synopsis
Angela Carson wants nothing more than to be the third-generation to run her family’s holiday store, Heart of Christmas, successfully. They’ve weathered over sixty tourist seasons, major hurricanes, and urban sprawl, in their old decommissioned lighthouse. But the national chain that set up shop in their small North Carolina town of Pleasant Sands may be more than Heart of Christmas can survive.

Encouraged by her niece to ask Santa for help, Angela gives in and lets the words fly in a way that, if Santa were real, would no doubt land her on the naughty list. What’s the harm when it’s just a computer-generated response?

Geoff Paisley has been at his mother’s side running the mega-chain Christmas Galore for the last ten years. When his mother falls ill, Geoff promises to answer the town’s Dear Santa letters in her stead. Soon he realizes the woman he’s been corresponding with on Dear Santa is Angela. How could the woman that grates his every last nerve in person have intrigued him so deeply through those letters?

When Geoff reveals that he’s her Dear Santa, will Angela be able to set aside their very public feud to embrace the magic of the holiday and possibly find true love?

My Thoughts
In Dear Santa, we met Angela who runs her family’s holiday store and while as of late the store isn’t doing too good this year it seems as though this might be its last especially since the new big box store Christmas Galore has come into town. With its mega savings and everything you could ask for Angela just can't compete. One day her niece advises her to write a letter to Santa via an app and Angela who is all against technology finally agrees and soon she and Santa are messaging back and forth. Who is this “Santa” and will her wishes come true this Christmas?

Geoff didn’t think that his new store would cause this much trouble but when the owner of the local Christmas store blames him for her store closing he tries to get her off his mind but it seems everywhere he goes he bumps into her and soon he finds himself liking her more and more. He is also dealing with his mother who he is partners with but when her health takes a turn for the worse he soon finds out things about her and her past that he never knew about.

As time goes by Angela knows that Geoff isn’t to blame for her store closing she has seen it coming for years, but now she must decide what she wants to do in this new chapter in her life and she wants to make the right choice. Not only is she dealing with that her feelings for Geoff that can't be denied any longer she has to tell him since they have been spending so much time together. So will these rivals become more or will business come between them?

I really enjoyed this read it was cute and cozy and how could you not like a romantic Christmas read? Was it predictable? Yes, we all know they will, of course, end up together but who cares as long as its done right I have no problem with it and this was done right. So if you like a romantic read then pick this one up and enjoy!

Excerpt:
Gabi polished off the cake, left a sizable tip, and picked up her purse. Time to find her new digs.
Excitement quickened her steps as she left the coffee shop and walked down the sidewalk to where she’d parallel- parked Katie Cheek’s silver Camry. Per their arrangement, Gabi had picked the car up at DFW airport, just as Katie was to pick up Gabi’s BMW convertible at LAX.
Briefly, she closed her eyes, remembering the moment she and Katie— the new friend she’d found on Pinterest from their mutual interests in snow globes and romantic comedies— had decided to switch lives.
Katie had e- mailed her after being laid off from her information technology job with a government contractor in Fort Worth. The layoff had unfortunately coincided with the one- year anniversary of Katie’s boyfriend’s death.
It was also two days after Gabi had humiliated herself in law school. She’d already slipped into her annual Christmas funk that started around Thanksgiving, and she was missing Derrick as she always did this time of year.
She and Katie exchanged phone numbers in e- mail, called each other for the first time, and commiserated on how they wished they could escape their lives for the holidays. Katie, in a bah-humbug mood, wanted out of her hometown that went nuts for Christmas. While Gabi longed for the kind of traditional Christmas celebrations she’d never had growing up.
“You say that now.” Katie had laughed. “But you have no idea how over- the- top sentimental they get in Twilight, and my family is the worst.”
“Better than my family who completely ignores Christmas.”
“Completely?”
Well, we give a couple of gifts, and if I’m lucky we might have a meal together, but that’s it. No tree. No lights. No parties. No caroling.”
“Sounds like heaven.” Katie sighed.
Gabi had been fresh off binge- watching Christ-mas movies to cheer herself up, including The Holiday, and the idea had popped out of her mouth before she even had a chance to think it through. “What if we swapped places for Christmas?” she asked. “You’re laid off and I dropped out of school. We’re both free.”
“Why not?” Katie said, her voice growing thick with excitement. “It’s the perfect solution to our doldrums.”
Why not indeed?
And that’s how she’d ended up in this quirky little town.
Gabi opened her eyes, realizing just how impulsively out of character the agreement was. It might have been foolish, but she couldn’t deny she felt wildly free in a way she’d never felt before.
Plus, she loved being in the midst of A Christ-mas Carol unfolding around her.

Working together on a fast deadline to save the store before Christmas, the unspoken connection between them grows. But will the tough decisions they face drive them back to their separate worlds, or will they lead to the beginning of love?

Christmas Makeover by Heather Tullis Amazon bestselling author Jonah Owens thought moving to Echo Ridge to open his art gallery would solve all of his problems. Carlos is no stranger to hard times and slowly shares his life of light and joy with Anika as they work together. Just as her fragile soul begins to feel hope again, an ill-timed act of charity changes everything. Winter Stroll by Elin Hilderbrand

Synopsis
The Quinn family celebrates their most dramatic Christmas yet in this enchanting sequel to Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling Winter Street.
Christmas on Nantucket finds Winter Street Inn owner Kelley Quinn and his family busily preparing for the holiday season. Though the year has brought tragedy, the Quinns have much to celebrate: Kelley has reunited with his first wife Margaret, Kevin and Isabelle have a new baby; and Ava is finally dating a nice guy.
But when Kelley's estranged wife Mitzi shows up on the island, along with Kevin's devious ex-wife Norah and a dangerously irresistible old fling of Ava's, the Inn is suddenly overrun with romantic feuds, not to mention guests. With jealousy, passion, and eggnog consumption at an all-time high, it's going to take a whole lot more than a Christmas miracle to get the Quinns--and the Inn--through the holidays intact.

Why I Can’t Wait
Yes! I’m so happy to have a squeal to Winter Street! I loved the story of the Quinn family. I love how they all have flaws but in the end they all have each other’s back. I can’t wait to see how their story ends.
