Synopsis
Nell knows a secret about her perfect, beautiful sister Layla. If she tells, it could blow their world apart.

When Nell and Layla were little, Nell used to call them Nellaya. Because to Nell, there was no difference between where she started and her adored big sister ended. They're a unit; divorce made them rely on each other early on, so when one pulls away, what is the other to do? But now, Nell's a freshman in high school and Layla is changing, secretive. And then Nell discovers why. Layla is involved with one of their teachers. And even though Nell tries to support Layla, to understand that she's happy and in love, Nell struggles with her true feelings: it's wrong, and she must do something about it.

My Thoughts
I am very torn when writing this review. I was so caught up in the synopsis from the start that I couldn’t wait to read it. When I finally did it just didn’t live up to my expectations.

Cons:
I was instantly drawn into the whole “secret” that one sis has over the other. I am a sucker for secrets and lies so I was just waiting. Well I waited…waited…and waited. When it was revealed I was like REALLY??!! Ugh! Talk about a letdown. Not to say this book is bad it’s not it just wasn’t what I thought it would be. I also didn’t like the way it was told. It was like told in third person by one of the sisters. I was just utterly confused.

Pros:
I liked the basic story of two sisters who are struggling to deal with coming into their own. Trying to find their own identify and not simply own as one. I also liked how they are trying to deal with the after math of their parents’ divorce. Plus despite their differences and arguments I love their dedication to each other. Their bond is one that is beyond everything.

So maybe my problems with the book aren’t so much the book but my thoughts and expectations of it going into it. I hate when I do that, setting myself up for failure before I even start. So I’ll say this is one of those 50/50 things for me. It can go one way or another.

  1. I do that all the time - have a more negative opinion of a book based on some expectations I had going in. Some of my favorite books have been those that I didn't know much about before reading.

    1. Exactly! I think I need to go into books much with a naked eye than knowing a lot before hand.
