Not that there’s any evidence. But before Thomas got to Garretts Mill there had just been one other murder in twenty years.

The only person who believes him is Charlotte Rooker, little sister to three cops and, with her soft hands and sweet curves, straight-up dangerous to Thomas. Her best friend was the other murder vic. And she’d like a couple answers.

Answers that could get them both killed, and reveal a truth Thomas would die to keep hidden.

Mini Review: Scratch by Rhonda Helms

Scratch by Rhonda Helms
Published: September 30, 2014
Publisher: Kensington
Format: paperback via publisher
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis
In her DJ booth at a Cleveland dance club, Casey feels a sense of connection that's the closest she ever gets to normal. On her college campus, she's reserved, practical-all too aware of the disaster that can result when you trust the wrong person. But inexplicably, Daniel refuses to pay attention to the walls she's put up. Like Casey, he's a senior. In every other way, he's her opposite.

Sexy, open, effortlessly charming, Daniel is willing to take chances and show his feelings. For some reason Casey can't fathom, he's intent on drawing her out of her bubble and back into a world that's messy and unpredictable. He doesn't know about the deep scars that pucker her stomach - or the deeper secret behind them. Since the violent night when everything changed, Casey has never let anyone get close enough to hurt her again. Now, she might be tempted to try.

My Thoughts
This is a wonderful quick but very sexy steamy read. I loved how this wasn’t overly sexy but just right. This is the story of Casey who basically keeps to herself. She goes to school and at night she DJs at the local club. One night she seems a handsome guy Daniel and sparks fly. Casey whom is recovering from a traumatic experience from her past likes him but is afraid to see what happens. Daniel on the other hand is a sweet and a nice guy who truly just wants to get to know Casey he knows there is something more than then she is letting on. Will Casey finally allow herself to open up and allow someone to break through her huge walls that she has built up? Or will she push away Daniel a guy who is willing to wait for her because he knows she is worth it?

I loved these two characters you know they are meant to be together yet there is something much bigger than them that keeps them apart. While I loved them at times it bugged me that they kept pushing each other away. There was always a constant push and pull with these two. However by the end I see why all of this happened.

The cover is what really pulled me in. As a huge music fan I love when it comes across into my book world. Anytime I can get my two loves together it’s terrific. So I was thrilled when I saw that music played a part in this novel. This is a book that’s a great pick if you want a quick read with a great romance. I loved Casey while she may seem quiet and timid I saw her as strong. I love characters that give us hope and never give up.

WoW [91]

Waiting on Wednesday [WoW] is a weekly event hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

The Happy Hour Choir by Sally Kilpatrick
Expected Publication: April 28, 2015
Publisher: Kensington

Synopsis...
From debut author Sally Kilpatrick comes a hopeful tale of love and redemption in a quiet Southern town where a lost soul finds her way with the help of an unlikely circle of friends…

Life has dealt Beulah Land a tough hand to play, least of all being named after a hymn. A teenage pregnancy estranged her from her family, and a tragedy caused her to lose what little faith remained. The wayward daughter of a Baptist deacon, she spends her nights playing the piano at The Fountain, a honky-tonk located just across the road from County Line Methodist. But when she learns that a dear friend’s dying wish is for her to take over as the church’s piano player, she realizes it may be time to face the music…

Beulah butts heads with Luke Daniels, the new pastor at County Line, who is determined to cling to tradition even though he needs to attract more congregants to the aging church. But the choir also isn’t enthusiastic about Beulah’s contemporary take on the old songs and refuse to perform. Undaunted, Beulah assembles a ragtag group of patrons from The Fountain to form the Happy Hour Choir. And as the unexpected gig helps her let go of her painful past—and accept the love she didn’t think she deserved—she just may be able to prove to Luke that she can toe the line between sinner and saint.

Why I Can’t Wait…
I love me a good Southern read and this one seems to have all the elements! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.

Mini Review: The Right Thing by Amy Conner

The Right Thing by Amy Conner
Published: May 27, 2014
Publisher: Kensington
Format: via NetGalley
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis
On a scorching August day in 1963, seven-year-old Annie Banks meets the girl who will become her best friend. Skinny, outspoken Starr Dukes and her wandering preacher father may not be accepted by polite society in Jackson, Mississippi, but Annie and Starr are too busy sharing secrets and playing elaborate games of Queen for a Day to care. Then, as suddenly as she appeared in Annie's life, Starr disappears. Annie grows up to follow the path ordained for pretty, well-to-do Jackson women--marrying an ambitious lawyer, filling her days with shopping and charity work. She barely recognizes Starr when they meet twenty-seven years after that first fateful summer, but the bond formed so long ago quickly reemerges. Starr, pregnant by a powerful married man who wants her to get out of town, has nowhere to turn. And Annie, determined not to fail her friend this time, agrees to drive Starr to New Orleans to get money she's owed.

During the eventful road trip that follows, Annie will confront the gap between friendship and responsibility; between her safe, ordered existence and the dreams she's grown accustomed to denying. Moving, witty, and beautifully told, The Right Thing is a story of love and courage, the powerful impact of friendship, and the small acts that can anchor a life--or, with a little luck, steer it in the right direction at last.

My Thoughts
Okay if you don’t know by now I love a good Southern read and this one is no exception. This is the story of Annie and Starr who were friends when they were little until one day Starr leaves without a trace. Fast forward decades and Annie is married and while out shopping one day she sees a woman who looks kind of familiar. Starr knows who she is and lets it be who she is. Annie is shocked and surprised to see Starr who is the town gossip after she finds herself pregnant from her married boyfriend. Annie and Starr have always had a connection so Annie feels bad for her friend and decides to help her out seeing how she is basically all alone.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how we get flashbacks on them as children and see how even back them how sassy they were. We see how the way they grew up made them who and how they are today. Friendships are one of the first loves in our lives. They show us how to love and care for someone else. From the very start you can see these two girls were soul mates of a different kind, bringing out the best in each other. They can make you laugh and/or cry but regardless they always have your back. This is one read you have to get into. It’s a rich story of friendship and how they can impact our lives. No matter how much time has pass, if you are meant to have someone in your life nothing will take that connection away.

WoW [82]

Waiting on Wednesday [WoW] is a weekly event hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Life is Sweet by Elizabeth Bass
Expected Publication: September 30, 2014
Publisher: Kensington

Synopsis...
Becca Hudson has come a long way since she was a tween starring in the sitcom Me Minus You, but as far as she’s concerned, she finally has her act together. She’s relocated to Leesburg, Virginia, owns a successful bakery, and has a great set of friends—even a friendly ex-husband. She ignores “Whatever Happened To?” speculation and the occasional overly obsessed fan, and flatly turns down a lucrative offer to appear on a reality show called Celebrities in Peril: Child Star Edition. She has an uncomfortable relationship with her Hollywood past, preferring to think of herself as more than a 1990s trivia question. Then one day a mysterious man appears and stirs up her past—all of it—in ways she never imagined.

Why I Can’t Wait…
Sounds like a cute good read and I love anything to do with the South.
